Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence holders wishing to up grade their skills to those of Yacht Officer of the Watch-Navigation & Radar face the toughest challenge in their maritime career, consequently preparation is vital.
Marine Matters is the chosen RYA training partner to the Warsash Superyacht Academy (WSA). We have worked together to create a one day course to ensure that students attending Nav & Radar are operating at a good Yachtmaster standard prior to attending the three week course at the Academy.
After successfully achieving a Yachtmaster Certificate of Competence many yacht crews spend little time using the traditional skills in favour of ECDIS and other electronic navigation aids. However, when attending the Navigation and Radar course students will be expected to demonstrate these traditional skills. We recognise this voluntary one day course will not suit all, but for those wanting intensive preparation training it provides an opportunity to work with an experienced instructor and ensure a confident start the Academy training.
The Nav & Radar course is 3 weeks long so the 1 day course is limited to Yachtmaster navigation and basic radar. The day will be split into four sessions and will include:
This is not the syllabus explained in detail but provides a precis of subjects covered. Students should complete all WSA course preparation to gain the most from this training - a lot will be covered in the day and this can only be achieved with prior personal study.
